Hoch Family Endowed Professor for Community Pharmacy Practice, South Dakota State University
Dr. Sharrel Pinto is an internationally recognized pharmacy expert and is the Hoch (pronounced like ‘Coke’) Endowed Chair and Professor for Community Pharmacy Practice at the South Dakota State University. Her transformative work and passion to find solutions to pharmacy-based problems earned her the honor of the ‘Harvard Macy Scholar for Leading Innovations in Healthcare and Education,’ earlier this year.
Dr. Pinto is a pharmacist, academician, and award-winning researcher who has dedicated the past 25 to improving the practice of pharmacy and health care. She specializes in developing, implementing, and evaluating cutting-edge programs and services that improve patient care, expand customer base, and facilitate organizational growth. Dr. Pinto has developed over 100 pharmacy-based programs for multiple organizations across the nation. These programs have shown to be sustainable and financially viable, in addition to improving outcomes for patients.
Dr. Pinto served as Division Head and led the Center for Pharmaceutical Care and Outcomes Research at the University of Toledo prior to her move to South Dakota earlier this year. As the Hoch Endowed Professor, Dr. Pinto will lead the community practice movement in State Dakota and has begun working on a 5-year multi-million dollar federally funded project with the SD Department of Health. Dr. Pinto will be expanding the work she did on Adherence Pharmacy and the STOMPP Medication Non-Adherence Project.
