Joseph J. Fifer, FHFMA, CPA, is the Board Chair of Altarum, a nonprofit organization focused on improving the health of individuals with fewer financial resources and populations disenfranchised by the health care system. He is also a Board Member of Corewell Health.

Fifer is the immediate past President and CEO of HFMA from which he retired in 2023. HFMA equips its 85,000 members nationwide to navigate a complex healthcare landscape.

Prior to assuming this position in 2012, Fifer held financial executive roles at Spectrum Health (now Corewell Health), an integrated health system based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and two other Michigan health systems.

Fifer is a frequent speaker on consumerism, value improvement and healthcare finance at major conferences. He has written extensively on these and other healthcare topics.
