Jeff Christoff, Principal, Tom Foley, Principal, and Michael Janis, Senior Manager, Benchmarking Center, Deloitte Consulting LLP. Consolidating operations into a shared services model has been popular in many industries for many years. Healthcare providers are becoming more interested in shared services and many have already incorporated aspects of their operations into a shared services model. IT is typically included as an element of the shared services initiative and is front and center as part of the decision to support shared services. In this call we discuss lessons learned from the strategy, planning and execution of shared services projects, especially with IT. We share recent trends healthcare providers are experiencing which are making the migration to shared services a business imperative. We also share benchmarking approaches that are used to make decisions and what benchmarks a provider client typically targets when deciding on a shared services model. Specific to benchmarking, we provide comparative information on how a provider performs in particular transaction processing areas and how the benchmarking approach aligns both industry and function for insight into performance.
