The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has been working with national retail pharmacy chains CVS Health and Walgreens to provide COVID-19 vaccines once the inoculations are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and distributed in coordination with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These businesses are part of “Operation Warp Speed,” which also includes drugmakers, medical distributors and federal agencies. Dr. Brennan provides an update on CVS Health’s vaccine distribution planning, including coordination with government agencies across the country, providing cold-storage capacity for vaccines that need to be kept at low temperatures, staff training, and online tools for scheduling and pre-screening.
