New medical discoveries can take more than a decade to achieve widespread use. The ongoing pandemic further highlighted faster ways to share information are needed. Leveraging large, comprehensive de-identified data sets can significantly reduce the time it takes to share data-driven observations as well as new learnings about best practices with clinicians, public health, and government stakeholders. Findings from the Epic team have been used to inform the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and have prompted discussions on the potential impacts of missed cancer screenings in light of the pandemic.
