Diversity, equity and inclusion are terms Michael Slubowski comes by honestly. “Both my parents were second generation, so I knew European cultural diversity at home,” says the President and CEO of Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health. “My father was Polish-American and my mom Italian. I grew up in Detroit where everybody worked in the automobile industry, attended local college and was recruited on campus to work for American Motors. Within six months I got a layoff notice.” Healthcare called when his uncle, a surgeon at Detroit’s Henry Ford Hospital, helped him get a finance position and, soon after, a role in outpatient clinic management.
