CIO MEETING MINUTES [WORD format – 45kb]

OBJECTIVE: To allow Scottsdale Institute CIOs to network about common issues, and to share successes and lessons learned with a small group of peers. Topics for discussion involve the strategic issues that CIO’s face: leadership, governance, culture and process change, and delivering value to your organization. As a result of this meeting, we should also:

Define future Scottsdale Institute programs to help members address these strategic issues.

 What discussion groups, collaborative projects, research, forums should we conduct to help all members better manage these important areas?

Provide input for April Member Conference.

 Review draft of the conference agenda, propose issues that should be addressed by the panel members and participants, and the role of IT in helping to address these issues. Suggest panel members for these key topics and how the results of today’s discussions should be represented to the executives at large.

Vision for the CIO role, and how the CIO is driving business value: Positioning IT and the CIO in the changing organization. As IT has become an integral component of every aspect of the business, how are you repositioning IT within the governance and culture of the organization? How are we selling the benefits and achieving the culture changes necessary to insure that IT creates and sustains the value it must achieve?

E-Business and E-Strategy: Is the bloom off the rose in your organization? Some senior executives have cooled to the notion that the web will radically change and improve marketing, PR and customer service. While your web application deployment continues, what is happening to web business strategy? Is the value going to be found in the integration of applications and operations? What is your organization doing or not doing? Why? Share your opinions and experience on this topic with your CIO peers.

Global Trends in Technology: How will emerging technologies impact the way we deliver care and keep communities healthy? Which are the ones that will have the best chance of making a real difference? What should we be excited/worried about? How can we be incorporating this information into business planning? How can we more rapidly adopt and deploy those that make sense now, and better manage those that do not?

Wednesday evening, October 24: Dinner at 7:00pm, the Italian Village at 71 West Monroe Street, 312/332-7005.

Thursday October 25: Full-day CIO session. Continental breakfast 7:30-8:30. Meeting starts at 8:30. Mid-morning break 11:00-11:15, lunch at 12:30 (catered in). Meeting adjourns at 4:00pm. Dinner this evening for those planning to stay in town.

Meeting Location: 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2100, 312/930-9890 (downtown Chicago “loop”, west side of the Chicago River, Monroe and Canal).

Downtown Hotel Accommodations: Please call Vicky at 312/559-0104 (the concierge at the office suites) and be sure to mention that you are with the Scottsdale Institute to get the discounted rate at the Hotel Allegro for $139/night. Each individual is responsible for his/her own travel and hotel expenses.

Meeting costs: These sessions are not budgeted, so we will split the costs of dinners. You will be sent a bill sometime soon after the conference has been held. FCG is sponsoring the meeting site, breakfast and lunch.
