Comment on the results of your gap analysis, security audit and overall plan approach. We will also cover the enterprise organizational responsibility for HIPAA, how IT fits in, factors used in determining “covered entities”, physician workflow impact, training scenarios and resources used to develop them, time spent on training (when to initiate with whom). Also, legal advice and from whom, new policies and the major stumbling blocks in developing and implementing, and the resources used for HIPAA guidance and your assessment of them.

Dr. Classen will facilitate an open discussion on Computerized Physician Order Entry, as envisioned by the Leapfrog Group and the Institute of Medicine. David will review 2 recent research reports on CPOE process and CPOE vendors that he and others from First Consulting Group conducted for the California Healthcare Foundation.

1:00 pm – 2:30 pm “Physician Designed Care Processes and Identifying the IT Enablers”, Brian Jon Anderson, MD , SVP Care Improvement, Allina Health System, Facilitator

Dr. Anderson will facilitate a discussion about the frameworks/approaches to developing a sound IT strategy to enable clinical and related business processes, and how clinicians might be effectively engaged in the process. He will lay out the approach to strategy development at Allina, their conceptual model for articulating a clinical vision and the required IT enablers, how clinicians are participating, and the current issues and barriers. Each participant will have an opportunity to comment on similarities and differences for your organization. Open discussion will reveal how each organization selected and deployed the IT tools that support care management, and your current challenges, success stories and lessons learned.

3:00 pm – 5:00 pm “Enterprise Imaging: Trends and TCO”, Rich Pollack, VP and CIO, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Jay Backstrom, First Consulting Group, Facilitators

Get a new perspective on the direction of this growing industry. From PACS to Enterprise-wide Imaging, and from Radiology to multiple clinical specialties, the challenges are growing too. But so is the value. Rich will share some success stories about Stentor and LanVision implementations and developing a road map for consolidated imaging services. Jay will give examples of user needs and benefits, cite case studies, and total cost of ownership examples. Imaging vendors are all causing a stir with HIS and CIS development or acquisition, and some building “digital hospitals”, timing is good for this update.

These could include plans, training scenarios, organizational structures, position descriptions, or any other tool that has been helpful to you. If you email to us, we will print copies for the meeting. Feel free to sanitize as appropriate if you prefer.

Our room rate at the Yarrow Resort has been guaranteed for as early as Wednesday evening arrival and as late as a Tuesday morning departure if you wish to enjoy a day or two skiing or touring the area, post-Olympics. Just be sure to mention the Scottsdale Institute meeting when you register.
