AMIA Special 10×10 Offering for SI Members

William Hersh, MD, Professor and Chair, Department of Medical Informatics & Clinical Epidemiology, Oregon Health & Science University, and Paul Tang, MD, CMIO, Palo Alto Medical Foundation, Sutter Health, and Clinical Associate Professor, UCSF. A goal of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) is to train 10,000 healthcare and related professionals in medical informatics by the year 2010, building up the workforce that enables IT to improve quality, safety and cost effectiveness in healthcare. Dr. Tang discusses case studies of EHR implementations involving computerized physician order entry (CPOE) that illustrate the need for informatics expertise. The 10×10 course uses distance learning methods to teach core informatics principles to clinicians and information technology professionals.
