David Classen, MD, CMIO, Pascal Metrics, and Professor of Medicine, University of Utah.  Dr. Classen reviews the use of artificial intelligence at the bedside to improve the safety of care for patients. He also discusses an article recently published in a special issue of Health Affairs in November 2018 that is totally devoted to patient safety.  It outlines how current EHR data can be used to create a patient safety monitoring system that can detect harm in real time and predict harm before it occurs, as well as covers how this information can be shared in real-time with patients and families.
