HL7 Update

Robert Dolin, MD, Kaiser Permanente, and Liora Alschuler, Alschuler Associates, are HL7 Board Members, Co-chairs of the HL7 Structured Documents Technical Committee, and Co-Editors, CDA. Dolin and Alschuler will discuss efforts to standardize electronic clinical documents and integrate these “eDocuments” into the electronic health record and public health reporting. Specifically, they discuss adaptation of the HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) for continuity of care (the CCD — Continuity of Care Document) and other common document types including the History & Physical and for public health reporting. They also provide an overview of the specification and its implementation by providers and vendors.
