At MetroHealth, the well-being of their employees is just as important as the well-being of their patients. From their award-winning Employee Assistance & Wellness Program to their Opportunity Center and Employee Hardship Fund, MetroHealth is dedicated to helping their workers meet their Social Drivers of Health (SDoH).
Dr. Ashwini Sehgal, Director of Research & Evaluation, and Anastasia Webb, Administrator of Employee Assistance/Wellness, along with Marielee Santiago, Director of Transformative Knowledge & Education, have worked to identify and address SDoH for MetroHealth’s nearly 2,000 employees. They found high levels of food insecurity, financial strain, social isolation and daily stress among their nurses and administrative staff.
Through their nine-driver screening, they connected their employees to over 200 community resources and implemented programs like short-term counseling, mindfulness, yoga, wellness fairs, fitness programs, biometrics, cooking demos, financial hardship fund and Healthy Transit options. MetroHealth’s multidisciplinary approach also includes partnerships with organizations like Goodwill, Family Connections, College Now, Legal Aid Society, Greater Cleveland Food Bank, Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging and Cleveland Peace Makers.
