Albert Chan, M.D., M.S., serves as Chief of Digital Patient Experience at Sutter Health, leading the digital transformation of one of the largest integrated health systems in the U.S. In this interdisciplinary role, Dr. Chan leads an omni-channel patient engagement strategy that spans web, mobile and telemedicine. He is also the executive pacesetter for patient access, leading Sutter’s modernization of its scheduling practices and navigation of healthcare services. Dr. Chan provides clinical leadership for the development and scaling of innovative partnerships, spearheading translation of innovation into clinical practice. He was on the early team that launched PAMFOnline, one of the nation’s earliest linked personal health records in partnership with Epic and recently has championed the use of Augmedix, a Google Glasspowered virtual assistant platform which has improved clinician efficiency and reduced clinician burnout.

An early evangelist of the power of health IT to improve health, Dr. Chan was awarded the fourth PACAcademy Award (2014) by his peers for contributions to the Epic community and “Future Leader” Health Care Hero Award from the Silicon Valley San Jose Business Journal. He was selected as a member of Cohort 13 of the California Health Care Foundation Leadership Program. In 2017, Dr. Chan was named to the Fulbright Specialist Roster and awarded an Eisenhower Fellowship, joining a global network of dynamic change agents from all professional fields.

Dr. Chan serves on a number of advising roles in corporate and community settings. He is a member of the clinical advisory committee of the Heritage Group and a mentor at StartX, a Stanford University incubator. Dr. Chan has provided mentorship to early stage companies such as Natera, which completed an initial public offering in 2015, and Qventus, which applies machine-learning based forecasting and industrial engineering algorithms to improve clinical operations and patient experience. He also served as a board member of the Bullis Purissima Elementary School Foundation.

Dr. Chan earned a B.S. in Biological Sciences from Stanford University and M.D. from the University of California, San Diego. After completing residency and chief residency in family medicine, Albert concurrently completed fellowships in Biomedical Informatics at Stanford University School of Medicine and family medicine research at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine.
