VP System Informatics, Baptist Health Kentucky

Bernie Porter is the VP for System Informatics at Baptist Health in Kentucky, where his responsible for leading the partnership between senior leaders and the developer/analyst community.  In this role, the VP is responsible for ensuring data-driven performance management programs are designed and implemented in a manner aligned with Baptist Health’s vision to lead in clinical excellence, compassionate care and growth.  The VP will play a critical role in the transformational changes at Baptist Health, leveraging the analytics infrastructure, developers and analysts as strategic assets that provide the agile clinical, financial, and operational analytics needed.

As the VP for System Informatics, he is responsible for working with the COO and CIO to set strategy, goals, and priorities for Informatics Governance:

  • Assess current and emerging analytical tools/resources and develop strategies to ensure that the most effective combination of tools (warehouses, BI, predictive, AI) and resources (architects, developers, analysts, and data scientists) are utilized to meet the current and future needs of Baptist Health Informatics.
  • Support the informatics governance strategy by defining owners, stewards and stakeholders and their roles. Champion governance by following the process for the key metrics.
  • Maximize the value of information and analytics assets for all users by improving their ability to use them effectively.
  • Support maturity assessments and improvement efforts for key areas.
  • Move from descriptive (what happened) and diagnostic analytics (why it happened) to predictive (what might happen in the future) and prescriptive analytics (combination of all that looks at what could happen and suggests what you should do). 

In addition, Mr. Porter is a past President of InSight, which at the time was the nation’s largest user group for McKesson Healthcare customers.  During his career he has been involved in the design and development of Data Warehousing, BI, Cost Accounting, Productivity and Revenue Cycles systems.
