Burton Hayes is the Chief Medical Informatics Office for Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis, Tennessee. As CMIO, he has responsibilities for supporting the Clinical Informatics, Physician Documentation, Interoperability, Physician and Consumer Innovation, and Physician Education teams, as well as leading the multidisciplinary EHR Council, Medication Clinical Decision Support Committee, and System Clinical Decision Support Committee. Additionally, he regularly advises and supports nursing informatics, pharmacy informatics, clinical imaging, IT support, IT Project Management and Cybersecurity teams.
Burton joined Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in 2013 as a faculty clinician and began working in IT in 2014. He has served 14 years his role as Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center, maintains an outpatient internal medicine clinic, and regularly serves as an attending physician on the general pediatrics inpatient service at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center.
Burton holds a bachelor’s degree from Hendrix College in Conway, AR and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Arkansas College of Medicine in Little Rock, AR. He completed residency in Combined Internal Medicine & Pediatrics in 1998, served as Chief Resident of Internal Medicine in 1999, and is board-certified in internal medicine and pediatrics.
