Current Responsibilities

Mary Beth is the chief nursing information officer for Texas Health Resources, (THR).  THR is a 25-hospital not-for-profit, faith-based organization located in north Texas.

In the role of CNIO Mary Beth oversees the nursing adoption, utilization and optimization of the electronic health record (EHR) for all hospitals within THR. She also serves as the liaison for all information technology-related nursing projects. In this role, Mary Beth chairs the THR Nursing Informatics Council and participates in the Chief Nursing Officer Council, System Leadership Council, as well as other Information Technology Leadership Committees and multidisciplinary teams.

 

Prior Experience

Mary Beth has worked in nursing informatics for more than 15 years, both at the hospital level and corporate level. In addition to responsibility for implementing an EHR in a hospital, Mary Beth has developed education and training programs, and managed SuperUser and Nursing Informatics programs within the hospital setting.  Mary Beth was previously an ICU registered nurse, ultimately working as a clinical nurse specialist in pulmonary and cardiac care.  Mary Beth also was the lead for Texas Health Resources achieving EMRARM 7 status in their 14 wholly-owned hospitals. As well as leading the initiative for Texas Health achieving the Davies Award in 2013.  In addition, she leads several initiatives that drive clinical care, such as integration of vital signs, integration of IV Pumps, into the EHR, and oversees the mobility strategy for nursing.

Mary Beth chaired the HIMSS NI Committee for 2 years, from 2014-2016.  She is past president of the he DFW ANIA Board Chapter, and was part of the initial team that started a NI Community in the DFW area.  She is the current co-chair of the Alliance for Nursing Informatics.

 

Education and Awards

Mary Beth holds a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Texas at Austin and a postgraduate certificate in nursing informatics from Duke University.  She is certified in nursing informatics and is a member of several professional organizations, including HIMSS, ANIA, TONE, NTONE, and AONE.  She has presented locally and nationally on nursing’s use of the EHR, as well as professional practice in nursing informatics.  In addition, she is the recipient of the THR 2006 Advancing Systemness through Information Management award, a DFW Great 100 Nurse and a 2012 semi-finalist for the Healthcare Informatics Innovator Award.  In addition, she is the 2016 recipient of the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Leadership Award.
