Paul Buttes, MSN, RN
VP, IT Clinical Applications, Baptist Health
Paul Buttes, MSN, RN, is vice president for IT clinical applications for Baptist Health, a role he has held since December 2019. Buttes works in conjunction with the health system’s chief information officer and other executive leadership to develop strategies for evaluating and implementing clinical technology and provide ongoing support and optimization throughout the organization.
Buttes’ oversight includes ensuring Baptist Health’s systems for its hospitals, outpatient facilities and physician practices meet the needs of patients and clinicians. A key part of this oversight is planning, coordinating and supervising all activities related to the design, development and implementation of the organization’s electronic health record platform and software applications.
Buttes has been with Baptist Health for 20 years, most recently serving as executive director of clinical applications. In that role, he led the system’s implementation of its electronic health record platform in seven hospitals within a 10-month time frame. The implementation had no delays and came in under budget.
Buttes began his healthcare career as a certified nursing assistant for Baptist Health Louisville, then served as a staff nurse, charge nurse and nurse manager for the hospital’s Coronary Care unit.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Indiana University and a Master of Science in nursing, with a focus on nursing management and leadership, from the University of Southern Indiana. He has served as a clinical nursing instructor for Kentucky State University and has presented during a number of IT and nursing conferences.
Buttes is a member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and its Bluegrass Chapter, and is a lifetime member of the Greater Louisville Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. He is an active member of his church, serving as a deacon, and has served as a YMCA youth sports coach.
