Rodney Gardner has been a nurse for the past 42 years and has had a full career demonstrating his clinical competence, innovative ideas and Administrative Leadership.  He started out as an Emergency Room RN, then Flight Nurse, and soon became the Director of Emergency Services encompassing 2 EDs and the Flight Service, at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas.  Rod was the instigator in the development and implementation of their Flight Program.  Under his direction Shannon Medical Center won the top state award for Air-Medical Services in 2002 and 2003, and Runner-up for the national Air Medical Service of the Year award in 2004.  Rod also served as the Director of Rural Health Clinics which involved 4 Family Medicine Clinics and a staff of 265.  Because of Rod’s innovative competence he was the MDS (Minimum Data Set) Coordinator for the Skilled Nursing Unit there.  Rod has an astute clinical acumen and in-depth perspective of what true care management entails and upon moving to Colorado began working as a Case Manager for the Southern Ute Indian Tribe.  Currently he excels in his role as the RN Care Coordinator at Mercy Family Medicine in Durango, CO where he continues to lead integrated comprehensive primary care.
