Shannon Dean, MD

As Chief Medical Information Officer for UW Health, Shannon Dean, MD, provides strategic and clinical leadership in the use of health information technology to support the tripartite mission of excellent clinical care, research and education. In her role, she works directly with operational and clinical leaders to identify opportunities for using health information technology to support clinical and educational priorities.

Prior to assuming her current role in December 2014, Dr. Dean served as Medical Director of Inpatient Informatics for UW Health for five years and as the pediatric physician champion for the Epic implementation from 2007 to 2009.

Dr. Dean is an associate professor of Pediatrics and maintains an active clinical practice as a pediatric hospitalist at American Family Children’s Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital pediatric unit.

A board-certified pediatrician, Dr. Dean earned her medical degree at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health in 2002, then completed her residency training at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. Dr. Dean completed the UW Health Physician Leadership Development Program and is also Board Certified in Clinical Informatics.  She is currently enrolled in the Masters in Medical Management program through Carnegie Mellon University.
