Dr. John Steven Lavengood (Steve) currently holds the position of Medical Director for CPC+ in Primary Care for the Southwest Operating Group (SWOG) in Centura Health Physician Group (CHPG). He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and subsequently completed his Family Medicine Residency in Denver, Colorado.  He is also a Fellow of the AAFP.

Dr. Lavengood has been a Family Physician for 30 years in Durango, CO. He has practiced full spectrum Family Medicine for the first 25 years, which included obstetrics, hospital care and ICU management, and currently focuses on Outpatient Family Medicine.  Over his career he has been in private Family Practice as well as hospital/health system owned Family Practice.

Dr. Lavengood has held various positions in the Colorado Academy of Family Physicians (CAFP) including: President Elect, President, and Past President.  He was recently recognized as the Colorado Family Physician of the Year for 2017 by the CAFP.  Dr. Lavengood embodies the vision for Primary Care to be the backbone for healthcare, reforming fee for volume to fee for value.  Dr. Lavengood has been a leader and role model directing this transition within Primary Care.
